This article explains how sexual identity develops during teenage years and into young adulthood. In order for these teens to develop a healthy sexual identity, it is important that they natural curiosity about sex is not shunned. These youths will also engage in flirting and begin to experiment with sexual behaviors. This will lead to the developing of emotional maturity. This process also helps young adults to develop their sexual orientation.
During this process, many teenagers may have questions about their physical anatomy. Individuals who identify as LGBQT, will feel a sense of rejection by their peers, and may become victims of bullying, which can lead to severe problems in adulthood. However, when ones sexual identity is affirmed, the result is a healthy self-esteem. Parents play a crucial role during this period of development.
